Grouchy Roxas is grouchy
Jul. 31st, 2009 08:56 pmWho: Roxas, Ash, Jenn, Aerith, Sora, Kairi, Aria, Pancake, Cloud, Riku, Rox and others as they arrive...
What: Roxas needs to vent. The Maw and any monsters in it are usually good for that. Well, okay, he took a monster hunt and left earlier than he planned to for it since he was ready to bust some heads, okay?
When: Saturday evening
Where: The Great Maw and its surrounding areas
Status: Ongoing
Notes: Can this log not die like the rest? *puppy dog eyes* Posting order... uh, order of appearance and some skipping may happen just to keep the log from dying. 8|
Roxas grumbled and cursed under his breath as he headed out. It wasn't that he didn't understand why they were upset. What was getting under his skin this time was that they were acting like he'd said he was going to run out and kill Josiah as soon as he could. Had they even read the whole entry? He didn't like the idea either, but they really had to consider the possibility. At least a few people had been civil about their disagreement, but some of them...
He paused near the Crystal Fissure and surveyed the surroundings. This was where they'd fought that White Mousse. All reports had indicated that there were plenty of Flan type monsters still hanging around there. Not surprisingly, he had seen a few on the way there, but they seemed to ignore him for the most part. He was headed further out anyway.
The Great Maw was not exactly empty, but there were a few monsters hanging around. In truth, he wasn't heading out here expressly to vent. He'd taken up a monster hunt and was just annoyed enough to head out earlier than he'd originally planned. It was nothing special. The guy just wanted some Ose pelts and those monsters frequented the Maw along with other Coeurl relatives. Not surprisingly, he did find at least one of the monster he was looking for right away. That was helpful and it lightened his mood a little. Now if he could kill it without getting too much blood on the pelt, he might be off to a good start...
Why did he have a nagging feeling that he wasn't alone, though?

Date: 2009-08-01 02:10 am (UTC)Ash had never had much to do with Roxas, but she appreciated that he had once been a Nobody too. She wasn't even sure he knew her name.
She lowered her gun and gave him a nod. "Hey. See anything besides flans out here? I haven't seen much bigger yet."

Date: 2009-08-01 02:31 am (UTC)...Uh, right?
As they entered the canyon, Jenn felt herself shaking a little. This was a bad idea, oh crap, what was she getting herself into...
And then the first monster popped up a little ways ahead, and...heck, it didn't look quite as threatening as she'd thought. It DID look like a moving blob of snot, though, which both disgusted the teenager and made her feel a little less worried at the same time. Jenn went into her default attack position, then glanced nervously over at Aerith. "Um...anything I should know about this thing before I attack it? What's it called?"

Date: 2009-08-01 03:33 am (UTC)"Uhhh..." She stared at the Flan (holy COW it was gross-looking), considering the options. "I guess...?" Honestly, she'd be happier if it attacked her first so that she'd feel like she was defending herself.
Still, they'd come here for a reason. She stepped forward and swung at the creature - probably waaay more timidly than she should have, but this was the girl who didn't even like squishing large BUGS. On the plus side, the Flan didn't look like it had a hard exoskeleton for its guts to suddenly burst out of. Although it did kinda look like its guts were already on the outside...
And while all of these thoughts were going through her head (because yes, they were), the creature reared up (if such a thing can rear up), made an unnatural squelching sound, and lunged at her. Jenn shrieked and whacked at it HARD this time, sending it rolling (if such a thing can roll) backwards.
Then the thing split in half.
"AaaeriiiIIITH!!!" Yes, there may have been some noticeable panic there. "They're multiplying like giant amoebas what do I do!!!"

Date: 2009-08-01 03:57 am (UTC)"There's a couple of things we can do," she replied, trying to keep her voice sounding soothing. "We can each fight one of them, we can team up to get rid of one and do the same with the other... or we can run, and find something else for you to learn on."
With the way things were going, Aerith was thinking that the last option was probably the best, but she wanted to leave the decision to her disciple. It was a battle, and Jenn had to learn how to take care of herself, but it wouldn't do much good if she was going to panic. And the monsters multiplying certainly wouldn't help.

Date: 2009-08-01 04:13 am (UTC)She didn't get any further, though. Because at that moment, a nightmare manefesation of deja vu came lumbering over a rise 30 feet away. Five mismatched heads ohshootthiswasBAD! That was the thing that had attacked their encampment in Narnia! That thing shot FIRE!
Staffs are not very good against fire.
"...I think we should RUN AWAY!" Jenn hollered, shooting a wide-eyed glance at Aerith. Seeing no objection from the healer, she bolted off in the direction where she thought she heard other movements...hopefully people movements and not monster movements. There was no WAY she was fighting THAT THING on her first day out!

Date: 2009-08-01 02:43 am (UTC)A little bit.
He still knew Roxas well enough to know that he'd probably take his frustrations out in the Maw so that's where he was headed. The Kingdom Key shimmered into his hand as he bounced into the familiar area with its high rock faces and gravely paths. Hard to believe how much had happened here - was it almost a year ago that they had faced Xigbar down in the tesseract?
He looked around for his Other and spotted him up ahead with Ash.

Date: 2009-08-01 02:59 am (UTC)She could see Sora up ahead with the dream hare not far behind him. Pancake seemed to be holding something shiny. Aria wondered why she hadn't noticed it before as she ran after them.

Date: 2009-08-01 03:14 am (UTC)Instead, he sighed and turned back to scanning the area. He'd lost sight of the monster he'd been looking for and wished he'd picked a different day to try this hunt.

Date: 2009-08-01 04:27 am (UTC)He lowered his arms only to cross them, tilting his head to the side but still not looking at Roxas. "Y'know, we've been kinda lucky. Everything that's happened so far has always turned out for the better." The keyblade master put his hand over his heart, and closed his eyes. "I believe that even now - especially now - that all we have to do is fight, and the light will always be there for us."
He turned a bright smile to Roxas, holding out his hand. In it was dangling a keychain, a tiny chakram, given to him months ago by Roxas' best friend. "Here, take it. So you can remember that we're always fighting so that we can be with our friends."

Date: 2009-08-01 04:43 am (UTC)After a few moments, he gave up on saying anything truly intelligent. What he did say, while maybe not what one ought to say when given a something like that, was still said with great affection. "You sap.
Unfortunately, this cute little brotherly moment had to be interrupted as they heard a shriek and then distinctive 'Oof' of someone running into someone else. The monster following her merited far more attention, however.
"Damn it."

Date: 2009-08-01 02:52 am (UTC)She paused, noting the awkwardness. "Eh, don't mind me. I'm one person who isn't out for your blood, and we don't need to have afternoon tea or anything. I'd like to ask you something though. Nightmares. You have 'em."
She sighed. "That...wasn't a question. It's just I'm wondering because you were a Nobody too and now you're not...and the only other person I can think to ask has fruity dream powers...so...guess she doesn't count."
no subject
Date: 2009-08-01 03:08 am (UTC)At least he wasn't alone in being aware of the awkwardness. "Well, the only death threat I actually got over that was from Aya. Yeah, I do have nightmares. Not too often, thankfully, but they're there anyway."
He had to think about that one for a moment. "I think I'm still adjusting to that myself and..." Here he chuckled, "Fruity dream powers? That's one way to put it. I dunno."

Date: 2009-08-01 03:37 am (UTC)"I am wondering if it's worth making a case-study out of it." she paused. "Y'know, a post-Nobody thing."
Her gaze drifted a short way down the path. "That...uh...rabbit? It seems to be holding something shiny." Ash knew about the critter but her mind was definitely not making the connection at present. "Should I shoot it?" her tone was slightly doubtful. After all, it seemed to have no inclination to attack them, but fiends were fiends and shiny meant potential net munnetary value.
no subject
Date: 2009-08-01 03:45 am (UTC)"I wouldn't know. I suppose you could. It could end up being helpful information."
Pancake was coming closer and now Roxas thought he might know what the shiny object it held was. "That's... Aria's pet Dream Hare. Little kleptomaniac when she's ignored and no I don't want to know how Aria figured out it's female. Its kind don't attack anyway unless they're provoked."
no subject
Date: 2009-08-01 04:11 am (UTC)There was a pause but to Ash at least it felt more comfortable this time.
"Well, like I say, the dream bit might be worth looking into." She smiled a little, watching as the other people arrived. "Looks like this chat is about to become a forum!"

If someone was in trouble he couldn't ignore it, especially if someone was suck in the maw. And Coud was prtty sure it wasn't just a scream, but a name being screamed. A very important name.

Date: 2009-08-01 04:20 am (UTC)Cloud, being Cloud, didn't fall over, naturally. Jenn, being Jenn, and far lower on the scale of coolness and superhuman strength, pretty much bounced off of him and landed flat on her back, her staff skidding away across the rocky ground. She lay there for a few seconds, dazed, and then bolted upright again, a hand clamped to her face.
"Oooowww...what-!" Sliding her hand out of her eyes, she stared up in astonishment at Cloud and Roxas. "...You guys! What are you doing here? Wait, nevermind, thank stinking goodness you're here, there's a chimera after us and I am not NEARLY that good with a staff!" She cast a fearful look back over her shoulder, sucking in her breath as she saw the monster come stomping around the distant corner. Oh holy stinking crap!

Date: 2009-08-01 04:48 am (UTC)"I don't think we can fight that with just staffs," she told him. He'd probably seen one before, so he likely knew more about it than she did. "Maybe you can, but we can't. We'll try to stay out of the way, but we'll help how we can. Jenn?" Aerith asked gently, looking back at the girl. "You didn't happen to bring your bow and arrows, did you? You can still fight if you did, but if not, you and I are going to stay toward the back, okay?"
And we shall continue this in the boss battle thread.
Date: 2009-08-01 04:49 am (UTC)Without a single word, Cloud pulled the First Tsurugi out of it's harness on his back and prepared to fight the thing.
Boss Battle!
Date: 2009-08-01 05:01 am (UTC)For some strange reason, Jenn's mind locked into focus; the feelings of panic faded to a dull roar as her brain took over. She leaned the staff againt a rock and whipped out her bow, notching an arrow to it just as her centauress trainer had shown her. The teenager nodded to Aerith, although still unable to hide the intense concern she felt. "I'm ready."
She glanced around, then spotted an accessible ridge. Without waiting for further instructions, Jenn dashed to the rock wall, clambered up the ridge, and ended up in an almost cul-de-sac spot somewhere just behind and above the others - good vantage point, and decent cover. Perfect for shooting.
"Boy I hope I don't get hit up here," she grumbled to herself, and loosed an arrow at the approaching monster from her new attack position.

Date: 2009-08-01 05:51 am (UTC)"Yeah, we can handle this." It felt good to say that with the confidence he did. Maybe that job wasn't getting done today, but it looked like it had still been worthwhile to come down here.

Date: 2009-08-01 06:30 am (UTC)On a somewhat random impulse she shouted, "You need a bubble!" as she cast the Bubble spell on him, covering him in a layer of small protective bubbles. It wouldn't stop attacks completely but it would lessen any damage he took for about a minute or two.
She paused for a second to look at the dream hare under her arm and noticed exactly what the shiny object it had was.
"Little freak," she muttered. Deciding to just let the bunny keep it for now.
She decided to just keep an eye out for any smaller monsters that might decide to cause trouble for now.

Date: 2009-08-01 06:55 am (UTC)She couldn't help but be curious, of course. After all, whenever there was a large group of people at the Maw, something interesting happened, and hell, she had her sword. She had potions. And she needed the practice, if there was any to be had.
When she arrived, she did see a large group gathered - Sora, Roxas, and Cloud fighting what she was pretty sure was a Chimera, and a bunch of others hanging back, ready to help if needed. Rox decided to approach the group, trying to also say out of the way of the main battle. Then something occured to her.
"Hey guys, aren't Chimeras weak to Thunder?"
no subject
Date: 2009-08-01 07:17 am (UTC)It didn't take long for Riku to get there. Instead of rushing into the fray, however, he held back.
"Well," he asked the other people hanging back, a teasing smile creeping over his face as he said it. "...think they could use some help?"
no subject
Date: 2009-08-01 03:14 pm (UTC)However, this was all something she'd have to get over and the group was big enough (and included SORA of all people). She turned to Riku but the words were directed t everyone. "I'm game if you are."
(OOC: What kind of Chimera is it? As I recall, the FFVI ones were kind of impervious to magic...)
no subject
Date: 2009-08-02 03:12 am (UTC)He didn't miss Riku's arrival or the teasing tone his voice.
"We probably won't need that much help," Roxas replied, "I took one of these out alone a couple months ago." He was tempted to ask Riku if he was hanging back because he was scared, but figured he wait for another time. The Chimera was still dangerous regardless. Instead, he turned his attention back to the monster and waited a moment. What kind of damage would Sora's Firaga do?
((OoC: It is an FF6 one.))
no subject
Date: 2009-08-02 03:55 am (UTC)She took a moment to observe it, watching Sora carefully. "Anyone know what types of magic it's weak to?" She asked absently, completely focused on it's movement.
no subject
Date: 2009-08-02 04:30 am (UTC)He watched in dismay as the monster only roared in anger and probably a little bit of annoyance, and whipped its heads towards him as he landed on the ground. That didn't go as well as planned - he crouched down into a defensive position, ready to call up another spell.
"Are you sure you took down one of these things by yourself?" Sora asked, plaintive disbelief in his voice. He didn't have time to listen to the answer as the chimera came barreling towards him.
no subject
Date: 2009-08-02 04:48 am (UTC)She was helped a long A LOT when the monster roared, startling her back to reality. Shaking her head, she mentally scolded herself for her rediculous distracting train of thought. Then she heard what the guys were saying, and her eyes narrowed.
"Hey guys! How about we all help out so the monster dies more quickly and we have less collateral damage to deal with?" she called advisingly from her spot above their heads. "Not that you all aren't awesome fighters and could probably take this thing single-handed, but we'll be more likely to get home for supper and in one piece."
That being said, Jenn sighted down her shaft, took aim...and fired. She leaned forward slightly, willing the arrow to find its mark-
Bull's eye! Almost literally, she thought ironically. The dragon-head of the chimera was now thrashing back and forth, snarling in pain, an arrow sticking out of its left eye.
Jenn had to push back some rising nauseu at the sight - Did I really just do that? - but no. This was a good thing, and she was going to appreciate her success. Or at least not get sick in the middle of the fight. She notched another arrow to her bow and kept firing.
no subject
Date: 2009-08-02 05:10 am (UTC)That was beside the point anyway. They were probably lucky this wasn't the other type of Chimera he'd seen that day.
"Yes, I took one of these down alone," he deadpanned, "Probably underestimated me because something else had already messed me up, but... whatever." He wasn't going to say that that something else was a stronger Chimera. It was unsettling enough that he knew there were stronger ones hanging around. Rather than comment further, he took some initiative and ran out to the Chimera's left, throwing one Keyblade at the already injured dragon head keeping the other in hand just in case.
The Chimera roared and turned the lion head toward him, spewing Fire. He dodged that easy enough, but it was apparent this one was at least a little smarted than the other one. While its lion head was glaring at him, the goat head turned and cast Blizzard at Sora while the eagle and boar heads just growled menacingly and the snake on its tail seemed to be daydreaming.

Date: 2009-08-04 01:19 am (UTC)"Jenn's right," she called out. "We should all help out. There won't be as many injuries." As certain as she sounded, a small voice in the back of her head couldn't help but add hopefully to that sentence.
When she turned back to the fighters, the Chimera had just begun to roar and breathe Fire at Roxas. With a quick cry of warning as another head turned and used Blizzard, Aerith cast Reflera to protect Sora from the attack.

Date: 2009-08-04 02:04 am (UTC)"I think I'd just get in the way," she looked over at Aerith. "I believe they're more than capable of taking that thing out."
She hummed thoughtfully before starting to walk towards the left of the battle.
"I think I'll go keep some of the small stuff from trying to join in," she said gesturing in the general direction of a wolf like monster that was eying the battle.

Date: 2009-08-04 05:35 am (UTC)"Well, ready to go?" he asked Kairi, who he knew would be determined to help as well. He wasted no time - he summoned Way to Dawn and rushed toward where the real fight was.
He knew he would have to attack it, but he couldn't just rush in - the heads made things difficult in that regard. It would be best to take care of the snake head first, since it could probably cause the most trouble.
Unfortuniately, he had already caught the attention of the Chimera, and found himself dodging a fire spell instead.
At the very least, this would be an annoying fight.
no subject
Date: 2009-08-05 04:58 am (UTC)There had to be some way of defeating it quickly and soon. While one of the head was distracted by Riku, she charged at it's side, hoping to pull it's attention to her while the others attacked.
no subject
Date: 2009-08-05 05:12 am (UTC)The Chimera bellowed and turned quickly, giving the snake a good shot at both Riku and Kairi while its other heads each cast some spell or another at the other fighters.
Sorry for the tl;dr, I'm writing for two now. ^^;
Date: 2009-08-06 04:22 pm (UTC)Jenn started, almost dropping her (thankfully undrawn) bow as she looked straight up. A familiar mousey form was climbing down the ledge above her, sparing him a rebukeful glare every few feet. He dropped down next to her on the ledge. Jenn felt like facepalming herself.
"Oh my word, Sil, I am so sorry, I completely forgot to wake you up this morning!" she explained guiltily. "I was going to staff-train with Aerith and-"
"Yes, alright, we'll argue it out later," the Narnian mouse cut in brusquely. Turning to the battle scene, he studied the monster with calculating eyes. After a moment of silence, he asked cautiously, "...This is the same strange beast that attacked us in Narnia?"
Jenn nodded, notching another arrow to take a shot at the beast. "Yeah...I can't really explain why they're in both places, Sil, I'm told they've been popping up everywhere." She fired the arrow, but it glanced off the creature's hide. The teenager huffed an irritated breath. "I got in one good hit on the dragon head's eye, but I can't seem to make anymore shots!"
"Then keep those smaller beasts away," Silandro said with authority, indicating the small masses of other monsters being drawn to the commotion. "I shall go down and assist with this beast." And with that startling comment, and before Jenn could absorb it enough to make an appropriate response, the mouse somersaulted off of the ledge onto the ground below and went racing off towards the monster, weaving between Roxas and Sora and heading straight for the beast. The next thing anyone knew, a foot-and-a-half-tall gray-furred mouse with a rapier was scaling one of the chimera's legs, stabbing the inside leg and stomach as he went. It roared in pain and anger and reared up, furious at the strange small thing attacking it where it couldn't reach.
"SILANDRO!!!" Jenn stared after the little monster, but her protest died with that one yell. She shook her head in disgust and turned her aim on a wolf-like creature trying to sneak up on the battle. "Stupid stubborn overconfident Narnian son of a plague rat!" she muttered furiously. "If you get yourself killed I'm gonna make you respawn just so I can strangle you!"
Which is Jenn-speak for being extremely worried about someone.
