"The stars are beautiful tonight."

Amy smiled as she tilted her head back to take in the night sky. Jalen sat beside her on the porch steps, hand warm in hers. Even though it'd been over a week since her run-in with Calum, she still found it a little hard to sleep at night. The nightmares had finally tapered off though, for which she was grateful.

Another thing she was grateful for were moments like these. They made any danger she'd faced seem insignificant...plus she liked the warm tingly feeling. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Jalen turn his head to watch her. He squeezed her hand gently.

"So are you."

She blushed and lowered her head, letting her hair fall forward to hide her face. It was nice to hear things like that, though she wasn't sure if she believed them.

"Yeah, yeah. So, um, nervous about next month?"

"Are you?"

Amy brushed her hair away from her face with her free hand, the blush fading. "I asked first."

Jalen cleared his throat before looking away from her. "No."

"Oh, you liar."

He turned back to her, lifting her hand to his lips. "All right, maybe a little...but I'm looking forward to spending my life with you."

Moments like these were worth anything.
