Will was the type of person who loved work.

But, right after an encounter with a particularly hungry Flan, he hadn’t been all that excited about seeing the same old white cubicle once again.

He was afraid that something even more dangerous would even turn up. Like that snake woman the other day. He still couldn’t erase the thought from his mind: Crystal, gazing out the window with an “OMGWTFBBQ” face, and he just wondering whether his coffee was spiked with something.

Will was not that accustomed to change, really. He had lived a totally ideal life until that woman, Crystal, appeared…

“Oh, Will!”

Shook out of his thoughts, Will glanced back at Crystal, who was leaning over the wall of the cubicle where Will worked, a rather sleepy look on her face. The endless work that the boss gave them was definitely showing.

“What? And…” Will lowered his voice to a whisper, as if he was afraid that someone would listen in. “Why are you here? You should be at home, taking care of the crème brulee. How can you just leave that thing unsupervised!?”

Crystal sighed. “It’s not a crème brulee, Will, it’s a Flan. Besides, I brought it to work with me.” She pulled up a small blue recycling bin, where strange rustling noises could be heard. “I don’t have enough paper at home to feed him, and here, people dump their paper scraps all the time.”

It was Will’s turn to sigh. “Why…” But he didn’t really have anything to say to that, so he turned back to his computer, where he pulled up a picture of a gummi ship.

“Have you heard that they’re going to extend the tourist trade to gummi travel, Crystal?”

She nodded, a serious look on her face. “I know. It’s really…unfair.”

“How is it unfair?”

She blinked. “Oh, well, unfair to all the residents of all those other worlds. Imagine, you’re living a perfect life on your world, when all of a sudden, a bunch of strange creatures come and confuse the heck out of you. It would be really confusing.”

Just like my life, Will wanted to say, but restrained himself because he thought that would rude. “I don’t like it any more than you do. I’d much rather stay here. Isn’t our world amazing enough?” Looking back at Crystal, he noticed her smiling. He started to feel a bit of warmth creep up into his cheeks. “What?”

Crystal shook her head, as if she meant to get rid of some thoughts that were plaguing her mind. “Oh, nothing. I just didn’t know you were such a fan of Earth, Will.” Continuing to smile, she withdrew from Will’s cubicle and disappeared over the other side.

Maybe…maybe having Crystal isn’t so bad after all…No wait, what am I thinking??. He frowned. I think that coffee is spiked again or something. Me, liking Crystal? He scoffed. No way.

Returning to his work, he could hear the strange crinkling noises from the next cubicle. He pretended not to hear it.
