However grumpy or generally antisocial Roxas was feeling, Sora dressed in winter clothing remained a hilarious sight since he tended to over do it on the layers. In fact, if Sora was wearing one less layer, Roxas probably couldn't tell. He simply waved back, stifling a snicker and wishing he had a camera.

"It can't be that cold," he remarked as Sora drew closer.

[identity profile] a-total-sap.livejournal.com 2009-12-26 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, when you're raised on a tropical island..." Sora argued, his voice muffled by the two scarves he was wearing. He then gestured to all the snow surrounding them, excitement sparkling in his eyes. "Lookit all the snow! They didn't even have this much in Christmas Town!"

[personal profile] thirteenth_brat 2009-12-26 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Roxas shook his head, resisting more snickers. Sora sounded ridiculous grumbling about the cold from behind the two scarves. Honestly, was he really that cold? As to the snow, well, yes it was kind of deep save for where people had been walking and therefore keeping it somewhat clearing along the streets.

"Yes, lovely," Roxas said, somewhat deadpan. He wasn't particularly impressed with the snow, not because he'd seen more snow anywhere. He hadn't. But because he really didn't see anything special about it. And he honestly really had nothing to contribute to the conversation.

[identity profile] a-total-sap.livejournal.com 2009-12-26 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
He grinned at his "brother" from behind the scarves - even though Roxas probably couldn't see the grin itself, there was something to be said about the way Sora's eyes lit up.

"Bet I could make a better snow fort than you," he challenged.

Apparently nothing could hide enthusiasm in Sora. Roxas sighed, mildly amused.

"I really don't feel like gambling... or getting a chill for that matter," Roxas replied, still sounding faintly amused. He didn't feel like playing in the snow either, but that was largely due to the fact that he was dressed warm enough for a stroll, but not for rolling around in the snow. There was a difference and Roxas had deliberately not dressed warm enough for such goofing off when he headed out. That way at least he'd be telling the truth when he said so as a way of saying he didn't feel like goofing off in the snow. That was beside the point anyway, "What are you up to anyway?"

Roxas had noticed Riku not far away, but resisted the urge to lob a snowball at him for the same reason he didn't want to play in the snow. Of course, that wouldn't stop him from retaliating if someone threw a snowball at him...

[identity profile] a-total-sap.livejournal.com 2009-12-27 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
If Sora was let down by Roxas's lack of enthusiasm, he didn't show it. Instead, he folded his fingers behind his head (well, tried - the mittens prevented him from doing even that much), and tilted his head to the side. He figured something was bothering the blond, and was curious as to what it was.

"Nothing much," he said in answer to Roxas's question. "I just really like the snow. I wish we'd get some of it back home." A pang of homesickness shot through his heart - he really did love his surrogate family here on Radiant Garden, but he still missed his real family back home. Still, he knew at least they were safe, and that was a good enough present for him.

He strolled up to Roxas and began walking alongside of him. He watched the other boy silently for a moment or two before finally asking, "Is something wrong, Roxas?"

[personal profile] thirteenth_brat 2009-12-28 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Roxas realized a bit late that he could probably have done a bit better with keeping any hints of his concerns hidden, but then again, eventually Sora would figure out that something was wrong. Then again, Sora seemed a little bothered to. Given the circumstances, Roxas did wonder sometimes if they still had some sort of connection. That was a little beside the point.

As to the question of whether or not anything was wrong... well, yes, there was. There were a few things. And given that everyone in general had enough to worry about, Roxas wasn't so sure he wanted to share any of it.

"It's probably nothing," he said after a pause, knowing damn well Sora wasn't likely to let the matter drop. As to which issue he would even mention if Sora pressed, he would have to decide on that when he was asked.

[identity profile] a-total-sap.livejournal.com 2009-12-28 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Sora glanced at Roxas out of the corner of his eye. "Probably... but it's not, is it?" He fell silent for just a moment before adding, "You know if you ever have anything bothering you, Roxas, you can tell me, right? I want to help."

[personal profile] thirteenth_brat 2009-12-29 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
And there it was. But which problem exactly did Roxas want to mention, if any? His gripe over the way things were going and the way the threat, whoever or whatever it was, was hiding out was a gripe everyone probably shared.

His other concerns... well, there was what was stirred when he let someone talk him into playing that damned game. That had definitely been bothering him. Some of the scenes hit so hard there was no question that the event had happened... like Axel's brilliant idea of following Pete in Agrabah that one day or Lock, Shock and Barrel and their goddamn pumpkin bombs. The scenes from the game had prodded his memory hard and he knew those events had happened. But then there were things that just. didn't. happen. For some of the scenes where he couldn't remember the events even seeing them reenacted, they still stirred something in him. But for others, such as pretty much any interaction with this 'Nobody' named Xion, he drew a complete blank. The game's revelation that Xion had in fact been a replica of Sora and wouldn't even be remember because what she was made of was there to be remembered just seemed like a way to explain why no one knew who the hell she was and really had no effect on him... or had it? One of his problems, though rare, was unexplained night terrors with no explanation whatsoever and not even the faintest scrap of a memory of what had driven him so forcibly from sleep. All he knew when he awoke was a crushing feeling that something was wrong, something was going down that he couldn't do anything about. He'd been sick in the days leading up to his fight with and capture by Riku and had been attributing his blurred memories of those days to his illness. Was there more to it?

Now how did he convey this to Sora without depressing him or making him worry too much?

"Okay, it's not 'nothing' but I don't really know where to start," Roxas said quietly, not looking at Sora, "I actually didn't think it was what was really bugging me. I thought it was other stuff, but... damn, I don't even know." That last bit was said with a bit more force than it probably should have been, but it was starting to get to him.

[identity profile] a-total-sap.livejournal.com 2009-12-29 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Sora was quiet for a very long time after listening to Roxas, hands still folded behind his head.

Finally, he asked, "It's about the game, isn't it?" Before Roxas could reply, Sora smiled just a little bit and continued. "It's weird, isn't it, how much of our lives are in those games? And it's like they almost were following us around for the entire time that it happened. A lot of stuff was just so close, right?"

Close, but not right on. Because everything that had happened, especially in those last few weeks leading up to the last fight against Xemnas, nothing turned out the way it was supposed to. And he firmly believed that was a good thing. For the Organization. For the Refugees. For them.

"It may be kinda strange to think our lives are already decided by us," Sora mused, his normal cheerful grin reappearing, despite being invisible underneath his scarves. "But the fact that you're here now doesn't mean they're always right. You just have to believe that your life will always be your life, and no one else's."

[personal profile] thirteenth_brat 2009-12-29 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"It stopped following the games when Xemnas found out about the prophesies," Roxas replied, almost a bit too quite to be heard, "He just let it play out to where he thought things would be in his hands."

Sora and his enthusiastic optimism were usually contagious. Often, even just know he wanted to to help you made you feel better, even if it was unlikely he could help. It was debatable whether or not things had turned out the ay they were supposed to or not, but they had at least turned out for the better... maybe too much for the better, but that was the probably part of the current problem and something they knew already.

Somehow, Roxas just knew Sora was grinning like the lovable dork he was behind those scarves. He just chuckled at that, "It stopped being predetermined when we ran out of prophecy. There isn't much of a choice now but to pick our own paths. As to it being my life... haven't we had that discussion before?" Okay, he was feeling a little better. He still had a personal mystery to clear up, but it did feel better with the reminder that he'd have help if he really needed it.

It was somewhere around this time that King Mickey came strolling up to the boys, still humming his cheerful tune.

"Hiya fellas! Merry Christmas!"

And once more, Mickey dug into his sack, this time producing four gifts. He handed the two wrapped in blue to Sora and the two in white to Roxas with a big smile.

[personal profile] thirteenth_brat 2009-12-29 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Roxas took the gifts, a bit surprised. He hadn't really given a lot of thought to gifts, either giving or receiving. Just about everyone he had any liking for had gotten a card. Of those who got gifts, obviously, closer friends got better gifts. Of course, there were a few that he was simply stumped on what to get them and so had not gotten them more than a card... and one of those people had just handed him two gifts.

"I... uh, thanks. Merry Christmas." As surprised as he was, it didn't take him long to decide to open the presents right there.

[identity profile] a-total-sap.livejournal.com 2009-12-29 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, Your Majesty!" Sora said cheerfully. He had gotten the king a gift and was sure it was somewhere at Rainbow's End... or Merlin's place... or the gummi ship. He knew it was somewhere around there at least.

He blinked at the two gifts he had gotten, and was about to just tuck them into one of his pockets to open later when Roxas began opening his. Shrugging, he tucked the smaller of the boxes underneath his arm, and opened the bigger one.

When the paper came away, all Sora could do was stare as if he were holding the Holy Grail, the key to the city, and the pot at the end of the rainbow all rolled into one.

Pizza rolls. Three packages of pizza rolls.

This was the best. Day. Ever.

[identity profile] le-king.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Mickey laughed at the astonished look on Sora's face. "Thought you'd like those, Sora!"

Now, in the box Roxas was currently opening, there would be one of two things: a bracelet with several gems on it, all glowing white and bearing a letter or two, or a keychain with a clock tower charm. Mickey wasn't certain how the second of the two would go over, but he hid his anxiety and kept wearing that smile.

[identity profile] a-total-sap.livejournal.com 2009-12-29 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, well we wouldn't have to keep having this discussion if you weren't so mopey," Sora teased. "Besides, even with everything going on, we'll figure it out!"

[personal profile] thirteenth_brat 2009-12-29 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"That would be a valid argument if that was what I was moping about," Roxas replied, more than just a hint of mischief in his voice, "As to the other stuff, I just hope we figure it out before it's too late."

He was quiet for a moment after that, thinking. He hadn't thought he'd been moping quite that much that it was noticeable, but apparently he was wrong. Then again, Sora seemed to generally know when someone he cared about was in a funk and while it was true that things had transpired to make sure they could have their own lives, there was probably still some other connection. However, this was all just some random musing to fill the silence and try to keep his mind off of other things for now.

It wasn't working.

"Do we even have any leads?" he asked, a tiny hint of frustration creeping back into his voice.

[identity profile] a-total-sap.livejournal.com 2009-12-29 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but it's always hard to tell with you," Sora continued brightly. "Because you mope around all the time. See, you've got to smile more. It's good for you!"

When Roxas asked if he had any leads, Sora cocked his head to the side in thought. Honestly, he had gone to Yen Sid about a month back to see if the sorcerer could help them at all. All he had gotten was bruised knees from cleaning and a new keychain that he still hadn't shown or told anyone about.

"I went to Yen Sid," he said quietly. "But he didn't tell me anything. I think if it was anything really bad or pressing, he would have said something. But he didn't."

[personal profile] thirteenth_brat 2009-12-29 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, thanks," Roxas huffed, not actually affronted by the friendly teasing, "And who says I mope all the time anyway?"

The news that Yen Sid didn't have any information from them wasn't comforting. Although it did bring up another possibility.

"Maybe he just wants us to get used to fixing things without some weird prophecy guiding us." Whether Roxas sounded hopeful or like he was desperately grasping at straws might have been open to debate.

((OoC: Go here and see what Mickey got for Sora. *not sure if you saw that tag or not* \o_O/ *also nosy about what Sora got* <.< ))
