Closer to the darkness, some shape and form became visible.

There was a forest beneath swirly black mists. The trees partook of the darkness, the normal greens and browns and greys of the woodland, verged on black. No breeze moved the branches. No birds or animals filled the silence. A cool, still mist hung in the air.
