The streets were quiet, and Rox was taking her time walking down the street toward Rainbow's End. Everyone was inside; most of the shops in the Marketplace were closed. Once, it would have felt scary. Now, though, it was nice. She felt comfortable, felt...at home.
It made her glad that she had decided to stay for Christmas, even though she felt a pang at the thought of her real home. She had let them down - her grandparents, mother, sister, friends, but...going back wouldn't make things better. Not now.
She shivered for a moment, trying to wrap her coat tighter around her (which was useless, since it was already zipped) before continuing, trying to pay at least a little bit of attention to where she was going.
